Deborah Aloba

I have been a Vocal Coach for almost 20 years and my method of teaching is based on the Bel Canto style of singing. My qualifications are Masters in Vocal Pedagogy, I am a member of the British Voice Association and I am DBS checked.
I teach in both London (South Woodford) and Chelmsford (Broomfield)

I am passionate about the voice being produced properly so that singers will have long careers either in the music industry or as talented amateur singers.  One of my main gaols is to assist singers to  understand how their voices work from an physiological and anatomical perspective.

I teach opera, musical theatre, jazz, and pop singers privately. I have also held the position Vocal Lecturer in the Vocal Departments of Barking College, Peterborough Regional College, Hackney Community College and Haringey College.

Further, I have conducted singing workshops for Black Women in the Arts, The Africa Foundation and Siblings Together and I have worked within education with Special Needs Adults and Children using music. I run creative, fun workshops for children which help them to understand the basics of music through games and creative play giving them the opportunity to explore their inner composer, conductor and singer.

My Experience

 

As a performer I have sung with various opera companies including Latvian National Opera, Lyon Opera House and European Chamber Opera. I have also sung at the Spoletto Festival and at Sadlers Wells.

My musical theatre work includes Bloody Mary – South Pacific, Mrs Bumble – Oliver; and Lady Thiang in The King and I.

My Oratorio work includes The Messiah, (Handel). St Matthew’s Passion (Bach, Stabat Mater (Rossini).

I was the Project Co-Ordinator for Vision Voices Community Opera from 1999 to 2017 . Vision Voices Community Opera produced 10 operas, to include Cavalleria Rusticana, Carmen, Il Trovatore, Cosi Fan Tutte, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Dido and Aeneas, Samson and Delilah, Treemonisha and Aida. The company also took workshops into schools and prisons.
